Tips for Planning Your Wedding Day Timeline

Ahh, the wedding timeline. I see brides post SO often asking for help with their day-of timeline! Truth is, they can go plenty of different ways and not be wrong. But it’s also my job as a photographer to offer my best advice for timeline prep and help my brides have an idea of what theirs should look like.

When it comes down to it, your timeline will truly help make your day not only run more smoothly, but also help ME ensure that I have the time needed to get all of the amazing photos you want. Today, I’m sharing a wedding photography timeline that will hopefully help you coordinate your day based upon giving you a generalized idea of when certain photos need to happen!

Are you having a first look? This new tradition in weddings gives the couple more time after their ceremony to spend with family and friends to actually ENJOY cocktail hour! I mean, you’re paying for that hour after all. Why not enjoy it, too! I love first looks for this very reason. It allows us to get a majority of the wedding party and portrait photos out of the way earlier in the day and gets you to your party sooner!

Are you going the traditional route and not seeing each other before your ceremony? I LOVE traditions. Adore them. There’s something so timeless about not seeing each other and having that anticipation build until you see your partner at the end of the aisle. Going the traditional route does mean that you’ll have to spend a good hour post-ceremony taking portraits and bridal party photos. I do, however, try to get as many out of the way before your ceremony as we can to help get you to your reception faster!

Whether you are more of a traditionalist or going the modern first look route, I hope this wedding day timeline helps as you map out the hours you’ll need for wedding day portraits.
